Breaking News: Patriots News Head coach, Reaffirms that, it’s a new era for the team; it’s never a game as usual.
“Look, It’s Going To Be Different,”
Patriots new head coach Jerod Mayo will be looking to imprint his own DNA on the team after the departure of the legendary Bill Belichick.
The New England team struggled to a 4-13 season leading to Belichick’s departure.
Mayo will be looking at building new structures.
“Look, it’s going to be different,” Mayo told The Athletics’ Chad Graff. “At the same time, I would say Bill did a great job for a long period of time. I don’t want you guys to take this as, because we’re changing, (these are) shots at the previous regime. In saying that, we will do it differently.
It’ll feel different, but at the end of the day, we would like to replicate the success that the prior regime had. I learned a lot from Bill and also his staff. But now we’ll see what this chapter looks like in the franchise.”
The Patriots will want to get back to a winning season and perhaps earn a playoff spot.
New England head of scouting Eliot Wolf is looking at remodelling the way the franchise does business.
“It’s been done a certain way at a high level for what, 20-plus years?” Mayo said.
“But I would also say there’s more than one way to skin a cat. It worked for coach (Belichick). We’ll see what works for Eliot and myself.”
Wolf said earlier of the new path, “We changed the grading system.
“It’s a little bit more similar to what we did in Green Bay. The previous Patriots system was more ‘this is what the role is’ and this is kind of value based. So, it makes it a lot easier for scouts to rate guys and put them in a stack of ‘this guys is the best,’ ‘this guy is the worst’ and everything in between falls into place. Rather than more nuanced approaches. I just think it accounts value better and it makes it easier for the scouts,” he said.
