Michigan Wolverines 4-Star Recruit Gushes About Defensive Line Coach Greg Scruggs

New Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore has wasted no time in assembling his coaching staff. One new addition was former Wisconsin defensive line coach Greg Scruggs. Four-star recruit of the 2025 class, Jaylen Williams, recently talked about Scruggs and had nothing but good things to say.

Michigan Wolverines Recruit On Greg Scruggs

Williams is a four-star defensive line recruit from Palatine, Illinois. According to 247, he is a top 300 recruit overall. He loved the hiring of Scruggs and had this to say in a recent interview.

Greg Scruggs, Defensive Line Coach (FB), Wisconsin Badgers

“Coach Scruggs is one of my favorite coaches. We’ve built a really good relationship since he recruited me my sophomore year. Coach (Sherrone) Moore definitely didn’t lie when he said ‘trust me’”

One of the advantages of hiring Scruggs is that he already has a relationship with many of the current recruits. Wisconsin tends to recruit in places similar to Michigan, so Williams already knew Scruggs. Moore not only gets a coach who knows what he is doing on the field but also one that recruits well.

The challenge with any coaching change is how to hang onto recruits. Michigan has lost one or two but, for the most part, has kept its classes intact.

This is huge for the program. Many thought that Jim Harbaugh‘s leaving would decimate the program for years. That does not seem to be the case. While what will happen on the field is a mystery, the recruiting hasn’t skipped a beat.

Can the Michigan Wolverines continue their dominance of the Big Ten? They have one of the toughest schedules in the nation but could surprise some people in 2024.

Michigan football spring practice and spring game intels

It’s a new era for Michigan football starting this season as Sherrone Moore has taken over as the head coach for Jim Harbaugh.

Before Harbaugh left for the Chargers and the NFL, he talked about pushing back spring ball following Michigan football winning the national championship game and Moore is following through on that promise as U-M has announced that spring practices will start on March 18th.

Spring football is starting later this season and that’s a good thing for the Wolverines because spring ball is important. The transfer portal window following the departure of Jim Harbaugh closes this week. There will be another window during the spring, so it’s going to be an important time for the coaching staff, especially on defense when it’s all new.

Michigan football has done a great job of player retention so far with the only potential starting-caliber player to leave is Keon Sabb. People made up rumors about Will Johnson following to Alabama but the U-M star called that a lie. He also reached an NIL deal with EA Sports to promote EA Sports College Football 25 as a Michigan Wolverine. I doubt that changes.

The quarterback competition will be a focal point. Alex Orji, Jayden Denegal, Jack Tuttle, Jadyn Davis, and Warren Davis will all battle it out for the job. There is also potential for a transfer at the position.
