Done Deal: York Rangers sign a contract with a defender worth $700+
The New York Rangers have signed defender Connor Mackey to a two-year, two-way contract with a cap hit of $775,000 when he’s in the NHL, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
Mackey has played one game with the Rangers this season, where he had a spirited fight with Ottawa Senators’ captain Brady Tkachuk.
Mackey has spent most of the season with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 62 penalty minutes in 36 games.
In 116 career AHL games, he’s scored 10 goals and 53 assists for 63 points and 178 penalty minutes.
In 40 career NHL games with the Rangers, Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes, Mackey has four goals and seven assists for 11 points and 75 penalty minutes.
Before signing with the Flames organization in 2020, Mackey spent three seasons playing college hockey with Minnesota State University, Mankato.
The Rangers continue to be one of the best teams in the NHL, becoming the first club in the league to reach the 40-win mark, currently sitting atop of the Metropolitan Division with a 40-17-3 record and 83 points.
With 20 games to go and a five-point lead in the division, as well as being one point behind the Florida Panthers for first in the Eastern Conference, it’s safe to say they’ll spend most of the post-season with home-ice advantage.
