NBA Trade Rumors: Grant Williams to See Another Scene Change?
The NBA trade deadline is just weeks away, as every team around the league is evaluating its respective situation and what moves, if any, should be made.
There will be teams that buy and sell, but also those that stay put or even swap interesting pieces that might fit better.
One player who could use a change of scenery and should have interest from opposing teams is Grant Williams of the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to this season, he was considered one of the most impactful players in the league during his time with the Boston Celtics, but has struggled tremendously in the 2023-24 campaign.
There’s no denying that the Oklahoma City Thunder could use someone like Williams. He can help OKC win now, but at 25, he also fits OKC’s timeline. Although he is once again having a difficult season, overall, he is regarded as a trustworthy perimeter shooter with good passing and rebounding skills.
Oklahoma City might give Dallas a great deal of freedom as it looks to assemble a competitive team. Although Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are both fantastic players, the Mavs still need a third star. The Thunder could function as a middleman and provide the Mavericks with picks or young players to help effectuate that kind of deal while obtaining someone like Williams, whether it’s Pascal Siakam or someone else in the league. Considering the quantity of draft capital needed in the future
Given that Grant’s value is probably at an all-time low, it’s unclear if Dallas would want to sell him at this point, but he hasn’t gelled with the Mavericks thus far. Maybe by the deadline, a second change of scenery would help him get back on track. He would be a fantastic asset off the bench for the Thunder, especially in the postseason, if he could return to the form of player he was in Boston.
